Thanksgiving Party - Tuesday 11/20

In celebration of the Thanksgiving holiday, I would like to invite parents to eat in the classroom with us. Children will pick up their lunch from the cafe at 11:00 and bring their food back to the classroom. I would like to encourage as many people as possible to join us. Due to the short notice, the cafe will not be able to accomidate too many additional adult meals. If you would like to eat with your child that Tuesday, please donate $3.00 so that we can purchase food to have in the classroom.

I will be sending home a checklist of items needed for our lunch. Please watch for this information to come home. If you can let me know by Friday, November 16th if you will be joining us I would appreciate it. This will allow us to plan accordingly for food and desserts.

I look forward to seeing you there!

Pen Pals

Remember the excitement of waiting for mail? Running to see if you received mail that was addressed to you and not your parents! It seems that modern technology has given way to the good old fashioned letter. Writing letters is a standard for second grade writing. We will begin learning the format of letter writing soon in class.

My goal is to have class pen pals. Each student can pick their own pen pal to write to some where in or out of the country, it can be a family member or a friend. Please provide your student with the correct spelling of the name and their address. We will be writing letters as part of our writing and incorporating this with a social studies lesson. If you do not have anyone for your child to write too, please let me know and I will set up a pen pal for them.

I will be sending additional information home as our project unfolds. I just wanted to send out information now, so that we can start compiling a list of names and addresses. Thank your for your support with our classroom project!

Thank you!!!

I would like to thank all of the parents who have already generously donated time or offered time in the near future in the classroom. It makes my job much easier to know that I have support from the parents to assist with things. I just wanted each of you to know that I appreciate everything so far this year. Class pet

Our class has discussed having a class pet. I felt that it was best to purchase something that would not be a huge burden to keep alive. I have purchased a stuffed animal that you will see at some time during the year. The class will vote on names this week and I will post the final decision with a picture some time on Friday.

The purpose of having this class pet will be to help students with class responsibilty. Each week a student will take the animal home. There will be a journal sent home with them as well. This will allow the student the opportunity to journal and practice their writing skills as well as share ties with school and home. I would like families to become involved with this project. Please feel free to add pictures to help make the journal interactive. I will be sending information home with the journal, please let me know if you have any questions.

A Very Busy Week Ahead

This week will be a very busy week for us. We are jumping right in on Monday to our math book, it will be just be a review the first few lessons, working on addition. I will be sending home phonics words on Monday as well. Please note that our phonics test will be given on the following Monday, August 27th. I will post the words here weekly in case you should lose the list of words.

Please remember that homework sent home each evening will be due the following day. If homework is not returned, this will result in a change of a behavior card. Please remember to initial your child's behavior calendar each evening. I will be viewing behavior calendars daily.

Thank you in advance for your support.

First day of school

Today was a very busy day! I just wanted to thank everyone for a productive day at school. There were a lot of new things to learn and new people to meet. I hope that your child came home tonight to share something fun about their day.

I know that today was a long day for many of us. Lunch could not come soon enough for some, it was too early for a few! But we did make it through the day. Please remember to send a snack to school for the afternoon and a bottle or two of water. It was extremely hot outside today and I know that the temperatures will be high for a while.
